RULES

Goal
Lay carpets and get Assam to step on them to collect money
Flow
Roll dice to move Assam; if he lands on someone's carpet, pay up, then lay a carpet
Win
Once all carpets are placed, add up visible carpets and money — highest total wins
Twist
The more connected carpets of the same color get stepped on, the higher the toll

Players become carpet merchants wandering the market, expanding their own carpet territory and collecting tolls from fellow merchants to earn the most coins, in this influence and territory-grabbing party game. Each turn, roll the dice to move the shared piece 'Assam,' then lay your carpet around wherever he lands to expand your turf. If Assam lands on someone else's carpet territory, you must pay them a toll proportional to the size of that area — the tension of stepping on and being stepped on, plus the intuitive tactile feel, make this a modern classic board game.

When playing with two players, where dice-luck toll windfalls can tip the balance one-sidedly; with serious strategy enthusiasts wanting to win through thorough build-up and precise design; or with a player who has a hard time tolerating the frustration of watching their carefully built territory ruthlessly covered by someone else's carpet.

Scores by situation

New faces+

♡♡♡♡☆ [Safe pick] The rules explanation is very intuitive at around 5 minutes, and the fabric mini-carpet components have great visual appeal, instantly grabbing attention even among strangers. Low in direct aggression and charmingly cute, it's a very safe and excellent choice for breaking the ice at a couples' gathering.

Close friends+

♡♡♡♡☆ [Sure bet] With close friends, overlapping carpets to cover an opponent's prime real estate turns on the trolling and blocking in full force. "Wait, you're stepping HERE?!" — the entertainment tension of collecting and losing tolls, and the joy and pain riding on a single die roll, is a solidly guaranteed sure bet.

Strategy+

♡♡☆☆☆ [Below weight class] The simple rules and heavy movement constraints from dice luck can feel a bit monotonous for intermediate players wanting deep jockeying and meticulous long-term strategy. Only suitable as a light warm-up bridge before the main game.

Couple+

♡♡♡♡☆ [Peaceful weekend] The process of alternately laying charming fabric carpets is visually enjoyable on its own, and in two-player mode each person runs two different-colored carpets for a decent amount of strategy. Not overly aggressive, making it a great fit for a calm, peaceful weekend chatting with your partner.

Duel+

♡♡☆☆☆ [Mostly luck] In two-player duels, a single dice roll can hand over a huge toll, so outcomes often come down to the luck of the roll rather than skill. If you were hoping for a tight psychological duel and a perfect mental showdown, it may feel a bit thin and hollow.

Gateway+

♡♡♡☆☆ [Decent gateway] The freshness of the components makes a great first impression for a first board game. That said, since it revolves mainly around the single mechanism of laying carpets and collecting tolls, its systemic depth is fairly modest for connecting to organic resource management or the heavy build-up satisfaction unique to Euro games.
