RULES VIDEO

Players become thieves infiltrating a dragon's lair, descending deep underground to steal treasure and then escape before the dragon's wrath catches up — a popular, fun deck-building and dungeon-crawling strategy game. On your turn you play cards to move, fight, and add better cards to your deck as you push deeper, but every noise you make piles 'Clank' cubes into the bag. When the dragon attacks, cubes are drawn from the bag and you take damage if yours comes up — a nail-biting push-your-luck element paired with a tight escape race to grab points and get out alive makes this a masterful gateway strategy game.

Skip it when the table is full at 4 players and card decision-making drags the playtime past 90 minutes with real downtime, or when a 100%-skill-focused Euro strategist in the group has zero tolerance for the randomness of which cube color (dragon attack) gets drawn from the bag, feeling unfairly eliminated by luck.

Scores by situation

New faces+

♡♡♡☆☆ [Ordinary/conversation killer] Rules explain cleanly in 10-15 minutes, and the intuitive dungeon-crawling theme grabs beginners or a couples' night easily. But since everyone's running their own deck (card combos) and calculating routes, it's a bit of a brain-burner — from the midgame on, players focus on their own cards and the board, so conversation tends to drop off.

Close friends+

♡♡♡♡☆ [Sure thing] With close friends, the dopamine and comedy tension explode. Grabbing your treasure and calmly escaping to the surface while accelerating the dragon's attacks, then watching greedy friends still deep underground get torched by dragon fire and crash into negative points — the resulting shouting and betrayal is a 100%-guaranteed sure thing.

Strategy+

♡♡♡☆☆ [Sub-strategy] The tactile feel of deck-building and the tension of a dungeon escape are strong enough that intermediate players will genuinely enjoy it. But with card-draw luck and bag-cube luck in play, it's a bit lighter than a heavy, pure Euro that's decided 100% by brainpower — it's best used as an excellent sub-strategy card to play before or after a main game.

Couple+

♡♡♡♡☆ [Peaceful weekend] The colorful board and cute fantasy card art add plenty of visual fun. There's almost no harsh direct interaction to destroy an opponent's deck, and since it's structured as a race to get everyone home alive, it's excellent for a couple sitting down together to peacefully explore a dungeon and enjoy some sweet time.

Duel+

♡♡♡☆☆ [One-shot duel] In a 2-player match, the tension of racing for dungeon position and timing your escape stays taut and comes through well. There's catharsis in reading your opponent's route and looting/escaping first to pressure them, but the bag-cube danger feels a bit lower than with 3-4 players, so it's best as a light warm-up wager match.

Gateway+

♡♡♡♡♡ [Must-play gateway classic] It's the most fun, thematic bridge for teaching 'deck-building,' a core mechanism of modern board games. The satisfaction of running your own deck for a combo payoff and the thrill of surviving a dragon attack coexist, making it a top gateway pick for leading eager beginners into heavier Euro strategy games.
