RULES VIDEO
A hyper-refined, Terraforming-Mars-style heavy strategy game where you become the director of a modern, science-driven zoo, building enclosures, bringing in animals, and supporting conservation projects worldwide to build the most successful zoo. At its core is the "action sliding" system — the strength of each of your 5 action cards depends on where it sits — paired with a unique, taut racing system where the game ends the instant the appeal marker (moving clockwise) and the conservation marker (moving counter-clockwise) cross paths, delivering heavy brain-burning and catharsis in equal measure.
※When explaining the game alone takes over 30 minutes and drains everyone before it even starts; when someone's morale crumbles easily from draw luck (getting cursed with bad cards) out of the massive card pool; when everyone calculating action efficiency in a large group causes downtime to stretch a single game close to three hours, and someone can't stand that.

♡☆☆☆☆ [Mood Killer/Wall of Rules] There's a mountain of minor rules, card icons, and action mechanisms to explain, taking at least 30-40 minutes just for the rules walkthrough. Bring this to a first meeting or a light couples' gathering and everyone's spirit may leave their body before the game even starts, leaving a devastatingly silent mood.
Close friends+−
♡☆☆☆☆ [Study Hall Opens] This game stands at the complete opposite end from the party energy of close friends laughing and shouting together. Everyone has to stare down a deck of over 250 cards and pour all their focus into shaving out their own combos and placement efficiency, so the default mode is solemn silence and intense, focused deliberation — cue the "did we pay to sit in a library?" jokes.
Strategy+−
♡♡♡♡♡ [Career-Defining Masterpiece/Peak Strategy] The "ultimate cheat code for board game enthusiasts." The joy of engine-building through a vast web of animal card combos, the brilliant balancing of tuning the strength of 5 action cards, and the puzzle of filling your personal grid board all fuse together perfectly, delivering deep thrills and enormous satisfaction to heavy-strategy lovers every single game.
Couple+−
♡♡☆☆☆ [Quiet But Too Heavy] There's almost no direct sabotage of your opponent's zoo, so it's peaceful enough to play quietly side by side, but the playtime easily runs past two hours and demands you squeeze your brain cells to the very end. That's too much brain overload and fatigue for a couple looking for a light hobby or healing date night.
Duel+−
♡♡♡♡♡ [Best at 2 Players] In a larger group (3-4 players), it's hard to keep up with the pace of cards cycling through the market, and the "downtime" waiting for your turn balloons unbearably. At 2 players, though, you can sharply track each other's tempo and battle for association slots, letting you enjoy Ark Nova's true value at 200% with the tightest, most comfortable pacing.
Gateway+−
♡☆☆☆☆ [Stepping-Stone Breaker] Even an enthusiastic newbie eager to properly get into board games shouldn't face Ark Nova as their first strategy game — it's like being asked to chew a chunk of steel with your teeth. It's much healthier to first thoroughly chew through mid-tier build-up engine-building games like Terraforming Mars or Wingspan before challenging this as the final boss.
